Write Your Favorite Memory, With Examples, Resources And Memory Prompts, Triggers, Plus A Great Exercise
Everyone has some good memory of something. And Memories- good memories -bring Delight. While remembering is often reliving an experience, writing these memories down will allow you to embrace the memory. Put aside a little time and pull out photos and other triggers to get started. To write your favorite memory or two is to put a smile on your face.
Going beyond simply remembering it and thinking about it though, as I’ve already mentioned, get out a piece of paper, or your laptop or phone, and write down a memory. It can be a series of posts on facebook to share or just a jot on sticky notes. Although writing and looking through photos sounds like you need to set aside an hour or more, it can be a short amount of time, even as little as 15 to 20 minutes. If you know you don’t have a lot of time to get lost in photos and writing memories, set a timer. But shoot for 15 minutes to allow time to embrace the memory or memories.
Favorite Memories Turning Into Your Life Story
If you end up returning to this Delight often, consider getting a journal where you can keep all your memory entries together. It will become a treasure! Perhaps this Delight will eventually turn into a Dazzle where you can write your life story.
There is a woman I know who writes professionally. She writes biographies. And not biographies of famous people, but everyday people. Before meeting this special lady, I would never have dreamed of writing a book about me. But she opened my eyes to the FUN possibilities. You get to write how you want your story to be told. You get to write just the good things if you choose. And people love to hear stories about real people.
Write Your Favorite Memory Exercise
But for this exercise, we are going to recall a good memory. Write it down as short as 15 minutes allows or as lengthy as seems appropriate to you.
So, get your pen or keyboard and write down a *good* memory, be it funny, romantic, heart-warming, silly, or just uplifting.
I’m not going to say you shouldn’t ever think about sad or hard memories, but for this particular exercise of Delighting your day we are aiming for those memories that will boost our mood and brighten our day. So, stick to happy memories by skipping over un-happy triggers if they come up.
To write your favorite memories, you can either jot your thoughts in snippets or write them out diary style with specifics. Use triggers- photos, songs, journals, emails, facebook, phone messages, personal mementos or trinkets, tickets, etc.- to help you remember good memories. Since remembering is often reliving an experience, try to recall sensory details that made the moment important, if you can.
My little 4 year old daughter has been getting excited for Christmas. It’s not December but it snowed and she asked me if it was Christmas yet! While she is ever so patiently waiting for the decorations to go up and the real season to commence, she has been recalling memories from last year. “I’m thinking of it out loud up here,” she pointed to her head, “like it’s in my eyes.” I chuckled at how close that resembled the saying “in my mind’s eye”. Ha! How fitting for this.
A Few Of My Memories
A quick memory first and then I’ll tell you about these random pictures.
Cheerio Fiasco
One time my husband was standing in the kitchen with a fresh bag of Cheerios. The plastic was being difficult to open. Instead of cutting it he kept tugging at it with his manly muscles! Suddenly the bag let loose with terrific suddenness, splitting in two. 1,000 little round oat cereals erupted 20 feet in every direction. A recently swept kitchen was now covered in Cheerios and Cheerio powder. A frozen, awe struck husband stood smack dab in the middle of it. I couldn’t be upset. It was too laughable!
Hiking In Arizona
Okay, that memory was too short to fill the allotted time slot. So, the pictures you have been seeing in this post are from fond memories I have from a short stint living in Arizona. About every weekend I was hiking with a group of friends. Arizona is a desert but it has it’s own beauty. Actually, it has very beautiful scenery! Half of the hikes I went on made it seem like I was transported out of the desert and somewhere else.
One of the funny things about these hikes is that I invariably ended up as the only girl in the group, no matter how many of my girlfriends I invited.
The hiking every Saturday was a fun time in my life even though a lot of other crappy things were going on. Looking back at these pictures to fill in my post here, I didn’t even remember the crappy stuff until just now when I was thinking about the time in Arizona as a whole.
