Keep Reading For Reviews Of Best Water Shoes For The Beach
I’m going to list the reasons you would want to wear water shoes on the beach, first. And then I’ll sort out what reviews you’ll run into online so you can pick out the best water shoes for the beach.
Reasons to Wear Water Shoes At The Beach
Reason#1 Rocky areas outside and inside the water. Different weather conditions and tide can uncover old rock in an otherwise sandy area.
Reason#2 Misc. hidden objects in sand. Even if you don’t find any rock in the sand, the sand can hide sharp objects.
Reason#3 Sand gets hot!
Reason#4 Walking to and from the beach without worrying about flip flops.
Reason#5 You’re going to a beach that isn’t all fine sand. Maybe you’re snorkeling off a beach that’s less sandy and has broken sea shells and small rocks.
Reason#5 A shoe that can go in and out of the water!
Best Water Shoes For Beach
The best water shoes for beach going are these lightweight water shoes, or water socks as they are sometimes called.
This type of shoe, though there might be slight variety in some of the brands, is ideal for the beach. They are so lightweight that to many they seem like socks and you even forget they are on your feet. They keep sand out but are still breathable and protect the bottom of your feet. When you get a snug fit they stay on your feet in the water.
I got a different type of water shoe that was more of a tennis shoe with mesh on top and holes in a thick sole on the bottom. You can read about them in this article here. I liked them for hiking in water but not on the beach because they let in too much sand, especially in the water on the beach. The water that laps up onto the shoreline gets a lot of sand mixed in it and those shoes didn’t keep that sand out well. They were harder to clean the sand out since the sand got stuck in the mesh.
Which Brand Do You Choose?
Choosing a water shoe sounds easy but turns out it’s rather difficult if you’re on Amazon. There are a hundred options and it’s hard to tell the difference in quality. You don’t want to end up spending hours going through reviews only for a low price item. But yet you don’t want to spend $15 for one pair of shoe for one trip that may not even last that long (multiply that by 3 or more when you’re buying for the whole crew and you’re at $50 plus!)
Well, that’s what I found myself doing. I spent hours reviewing reviews and searching and researching. For what? So, I decided to gather what I found and pass it on to YOU to save you the time and effort.
A Note On Sizing
If I say a shoe runs small, big or true to size, it means generally. Someone did mention in a review that they ordered two different colors in the same size and got two very different sized shoes even though the shoe size was marked the same on the shoe, which explains the discrepancies you may see in reviews from shoe to shoe.
Cost and Quality
Overall, you pay the basic same cost for a shoe. It seemed to me that any of the brands had bad shoes among many good shoes. The quality is where you end up looking and looking to see if you can get a higher chance for a pair that will last. This list of water shoe brands (especially the first couple listed here) are the best water shoes for the beach. These brands here are your best bet. If you’re concerned about yours lasting on your trip, buy an extra pair to take with you.
A lot of the 4 and 5 star reviews are from people who tried the shoe on but hadn’t actually tested them out on the beach or in the pool. AND if you see some listed less than $10 it’s likely for small kids sizes or an option that isn’t available.
After the first several shoe brands and at some point they’re basically the same thing so I cut it off, but I stuck with the top 8 choices, the first few seeming to be your best bet: best water shoes for the beach.
Top Brands Of Sock Water Shoes
- BareRun
- $13.59
- 77% 5 star out of 79 Reviews
- Size: tend to run small
- Seems like the quality is pretty decent though maybe not as comfortable as other brands, bottom inside liner tends to move around (it is removable)
- JIASUQI
- $13.88
- 68% 5 star out of 858
- Size: 18 reviews said run a little small and 29 reviews said true to size
- Fun patterns and one of the colors offers a zipper pocket in shoe around the heel for squeezing in a key or credit card.
- These will likely work for wider feet too
- Largest size for men is 10.5-11
- CIOR
- $21.99- sole comes up over shoe for a little extra toe protection
- 67% 5 star out of 602 reviews
- Size: The shoe TENDS to run small (most people commenting on size of shoe said buy smaller size than your regular size but there were outliers)
- Note: Says there are tiny holes on the bottom for water drainage. There is screen over the holes to keep stuff out, one review said that very little sand got in.
More Good Options
- Heeta Shoes
- $13.88 for one and $19.99 for other “style”
- 70% 5 Star out of 227
- Fit true to size
- Slightly better quality? I found a lot less “wore out quick” reviews but that’s only out of 227- update: It’s now 71% 5 star out of 389 and more reviews on shoes wearing out. I’m thinking that maybe the different style options may affect that.
- More basic colors and patterns
- Note: There is an option for one “style” that has an upgraded sole where it wraps up on the shoe. Those are $19.99.
- Note: Not every color or style options are made of the same material. Some look like they are more “meshy” than others. But I would think they would still keep sand out okay.
- Moffo
- $12.99
- 85% 5 star out of 159 reviews
- Ning Meng
- $13.49
- 64% 5 star out of 525

- HMIYA
- $13.39

- Inconsistent shoe sizing
- I think these could be the same company that makes the Ning Meng shoe above.
- WateLves
- $13.58
- 61% 5 stars out of 1,945
Water Shoes for Snorkeling In Hawaii
If you are planning to snorkel these shoes are great to wear with flippers. They are a lot like socks but with a rubber sole that will grip. Most of them are very low profile and fit well into the flippers. If you want to read more about this see my article on best water shoes for snorkeling.

Hi Julie
Thanks for this very helpful article. I’m definitely going to seek out the bare run shoes. I’m also sold on the idea of buying open-heeled short fins to use with the shoes. Do you have a recommendation for short fins to fit with the shoes? My feet are size 10 so what size fin should I get to combine with the shoes?
Thanks in advance for your help.
John
Julie
Unfortunately, I don’t have a specific recommendation for you since I didn’t get short fins. I hope you find what you need!
